Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1: Machame Gate (1,640 meters) to Machame Camp (2,835 meters)

Start at the Machame Gate, where you'll register and meet your guides and porters.
Begin the trek through the lush rainforest of Kilimanjaro.
Hike for approximately 5-7 hours to reach Machame Camp.
Overnight at Machame Camp.

Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp (3,750 meters)

Continue through the rainforest, gradually ascending through the moorland zone.
Encounter the heather and moorland vegetation.
Hike for about 4-6 hours to reach Shira Camp.
Overnight at Shira Camp.

Day 3: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp (3,900 meters)

Trek across the Shira Plateau, gaining altitude slowly.
Enjoy stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro and its surroundings.
Reach Lava Tower at 4,600 meters for acclimatization.
Descend to Barranco Camp at 3,900 meters.
Today's trek typically takes 6-8 hours.
Overnight at Barranco Camp.

Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp (4,035 meters)

Begin the day by tackling the Barranco Wall, a steep climb but not technical.
Traverse the alpine desert, passing through valleys and ridges.
Trek to Karanga Camp, which usually takes around 4-5 hours.
This shorter day allows for rest and acclimatization.
Overnight at Karanga Camp.

Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp (4,600 meters)

Ascend through the barren landscape towards Barafu Camp.
Pass through rocky terrain and scree slopes.
Reach Barafu Camp, the base camp for the summit attempt.
Prepare your gear and rest before the summit push.
Today's hike typically takes around 4-5 hours.
Overnight at Barafu Camp.

Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters) and descend to Mweka Camp (3,100 meters)

Begin the summit attempt in the early hours of the morning, usually around midnight.
Ascend steeply to Stella Point (5,685 meters) on the crater rim.
Continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, arriving around sunrise.
Descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest.
Continue descending to Mweka Camp, usually taking around 11-15 hours in total.
Overnight at Mweka Camp.

Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate (1,640 meters)

Descend through the rainforest, enjoying the lush surroundings.
Arrive at Mweka Gate, where you'll receive your summit certificates.
Say farewell to your guides and porters.
Transfer back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha.
Celebrate your accomplishment!

This itinerary allows for proper acclimatization, increasing your chances of successfully reaching the summit while minimizing the risk of altitude sickness. However, it’s essential to remember that altitude affects everyone differently, and it’s crucial to listen to your body and the advice of your guides throughout the climb.
