On the seventh day, reach the summit of Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, and savor the awe-inspiring vistas stretching as far as the eye can see. Descend via the Mweka Route, reflecting on the incredible journey and the memories made along the way. Day by Day Itinerary
Start at Lemosho Glades (starting point of the Lemosho Route).
Hike through lush rainforest.
Camp at Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree Camp).
Continue through the rainforest, then enter the heath and moorland zones.
Pass through the Shira Ridge.
Camp at Shira 1 Camp.
Hike through the Shira Plateau.
Gain elevation and acclimatize.
Camp at Shira 2 Camp.
Climb to Lava Tower (approx. 4,600m) for acclimatization.
Descend to Barranco Camp, passing the Great Barranco Wall along the way.
Camp at Barranco Camp.
Climb the Barranco Wall.
Traverse through alpine desert terrain.
Camp at Karanga Valley Camp.
Ascend through rocky terrain.
Arrive at Barafu Camp, the base camp for the summit attempt.
Prepare for the summit push.
Rest and hydrate.
Start the summit attempt around midnight.
Hike through the night to reach Stella Point at the crater rim.
Continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.
Descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest.
Continue descending to Mweka Camp for overnight stay.
Descend through rainforest.
Arrive at Mweka Gate.
Collect summit certificates.
Transfer back to your accommodation in Moshi or Arusha.
This itinerary allows for proper acclimatization, increasing your chances of successfully reaching the summit while minimizing the risk of altitude sickness. However, it’s essential to remember that altitude affects everyone differently, and it’s crucial to listen to your body and the advice of your guides throughout the climb.
