Ngorongoro National Park

Norther Circuit

TheNgorongoro Conservation Area in northern Tanzania is a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for housing the world’s largest intact, unflooded volcanic caldera. Formed millions of years ago by a massive volcanic collapse, the Ngorongoro Crater features 600-meter-high walls that serve as a natural enclosure for over 25,000 large animals, offering exceptional year-round wildlife viewing and reliable sightings of the “Big Five,” including endangered black rhinos. Distinct from traditional national parks, this unique protected zone balances wildlife preservation with human habitation, allowing traditional Maasai pastoralists to graze cattle alongside wild herds. Additionally, the reserve holds deep archaeological importance as it encompasses Olduvai Gorge, a premier prehistoric site that has yielded critical insights into early human evolution.
